Teens Living with Cancer

Being a teenager is hard enough and when Cancer becomes a part of that tough transitioning stage it can seem like an impossible battle. That is why TLC (Teens Living with Cancer) was created.  Their mission is to help Teens live their best lives through all stages of their disease and treatment.

This Rochester based organization teamed with Roswell Park a few years ago to create a Buffalo chapter. Kelly Callahan is the Program Coordinator for the Buffalo branch and has made it her mission to keep the teens in her program in good spirits and foster a sense of unity among them. The Buffalo program meets monthly for activities such as paint nite, monster minigolf, or some friendly competition in a few rounds of minute-to-win it.

Recently the newest venture for TLC at Roswell Park is the creation of TLCfit.  This 10 week fitness and nutrition program with Body Blocks Fitness was created to help teen and young adult cancer survivors cope with the changes that come with treatment and normal development while also rebuilding muscles, strength, and confidence. This empowering program is meant to not only help these teens in the present but to help them make a long term commitment to a healthy lifestyle in the future.kelly callahan

Another major event that the program puts on for the teens is the TLC Prom. The program just held their second annual prom this past June and it was a huge success. The night was full of fun, laughter and gave the teens access to a candy bar, photo booth, caricature artist, and fortune teller. As a TLC prom committee member I was able to attend the event and I cannot express how amazing it was to see these kids who have been through so much dance the night away without a worry in the world.

Friday October 30, 2015 Sephora Walden will be hosting a Freaky Friday Costume Party to benefit the Teens Living with Cancer Program at Roswell Park. The event will be held at The Waiting Room on Delaware Ave from 6-10pm and 100% of the proceeds will go to TLC at Roswell.  There will be live music, a Chinese auction, and cash prize for best costume!
