World Leaders Join Together

It is in times of crisis that we look to our leaders for strength and support.  In the aftermath of the attacks on Paris the world did just that.  We looked to our leaders for guidance, clarity, and most importantly we waited for them to answer the question on everyone’s mind, “what now?”

The President of France, Francois Hollande, held a national day of mourning to honor the 130 victims killed in the attacks. He joined together with survivors, families of the victims, past presidents, and over a thousand members of the public.  They all stood together in a minute of silence while the names of the victims were read aloud.

Hollande pledged to the people of France that they would fight back and leaders from around the world have followed suit. At the G-20 Summit, a group of 20 industrial and developing nations that usually focus on global economic concerns, President Obama stated that this was not just an attack on Paris but an “attack on the civilized world.” Russian President Vladimir Putin called for uniting efforts of the entire international community. At the U.N. Climate Change Conference, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that there would be full Chinese cooperation on climate and the war on terror.obama putin

It would have been very easy for these international leaders of the world to take a laissez-faire stance when ISIS made an attack on Paris. But instead they have pushed aside differences and are coming together to represent and protect their world and the people in it. Countries who were at odds such as the U.S. and Russia are now on the verge of a possible diplomatic breakthrough. Our leaders are stepping forward and joining together as a single, united front against a growing evil. They have promised action and shown the world that in times like these we must stick together or else we will fall apart.
