Take the Next Step

It is always amazing to see the people in this world rally behind an inspiring story.  That in times of hardship we can find ways to make others’ lives a little bit brighter. Safyre Terry is 8 years old and lost her father and 3 siblings in an arson attack in 2013.  She survived but suffers from burns to 75% of her body. Despite all of this tragedy Safyre has still found joy in something as simple as filling a Christmas Card Tree .

Safyre’s aunt, Liz Dolder, brought home a card tree for Christmas and Safyre could not wait to begin filling it.  Dolder posted about it on Facebook in hopes of receiving some help. Soon after the post, Safyre’s story went viral and people around the world began to show their support. In the last couple of weeks Safyre has received thousands of cards and presents and her family was chosen by the non-profit Baking Memories 4 Kids to go on an all-expenses paid vacation to Disney World in February 2016.

It is wonderful that Safyre has been able to see her dream of filling her tree become a reality but what makes her story even more inspirational is the fact that people took the next step. A crowdfunding site was created for Safyre and her family with the goal of raising $15,000. To date $300,000 has been donated.  This money will allow the family to move into a stable home and will be put into a trust for Safyre’s education in the future.

Often times when we hear about stories like this we send the card or donate a gift and that is where it stops. We are left to wonder what will happen in the next, 2, 5, 10 years. But in Safyre’s case they have created a fund that will not only benefit her now but in the future as well.  This is something we must remember not just during the Holiday season but always.  How can I make a difference in someone’s life not just today but in the future as well?

If you would like to send a card to Safyre or donate to her site the information is below.
