Favorite Ads of the 2018 Super Bowl

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest night of the year for NFL fans while also being one of the biggest advertising slots. This year had several star commercials and a couple of flops, so here are some personal favorites of the 2018 Super Bowl Ads:

David Harbour’s “It’s a Tide Ad”

  • Typically the most memorable Super Bowl ads are either emotionally powerful or hilariously witty. Well Tide caught many off guard with their clever parody of Super Bowl ad clichés. David Harbour of Stranger Things led the viewers through several typical commercial scenes that foreshadowed shaving or beer ads until Harbour would walk out in a dazzlingly clean shirt and reminded you that you were wrong – “It’s a Tide Ad”. The joke turned out to carry on throughout the night with several other twists such as the assumed Old-Spice and Mr. Clean ads that were actually just for Tide. It was engaging and incredibly clever and is sure to be a favorite this year.

NFL Dirty Dancing Scene Starring Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.

  • The two Giants players reenacted a horrible rendition of the famously classic last dance number from Dirty Dancing to remind viewers of the touchdown dances left to come next season. Their dancing was so awful though that it was just pure enjoyment and a pleasant twist – especially when they stuck the lift.

Budweiser’s ”Stand By You” Commercial

  • Budweiser is notorious for their emotionally gripping commercials and the past two years they have ditched airing their classic Clydesdales and dogs for politically centered ads during the big game. This year’s focused on the company’s efforts to send relief to those effected by disaster in 2017. While it could have been more powerful considering their usual, it was still a nice thought and reminded viewers of Budweiser’s values and philanthropy.

Amazon’s Alexa Loses Her Voice

  • This was a fun way to bring in celebrity cameos and to reach audiences of all levels with the use of pop stars, movies stars and even celebrity chefs. It featured several celebrities speaking through Alexa’s channel and surprising users with hilariously unexpected responses to their questions.

Verizon’s Thank You to First Responders

  • A clever connection of implying that first responders only get our calls for help because of phone services, this ad was a beautiful tribute to the thousands of workers who risk their lives every day to save ours.

Doritos and Mountain Dew Lip Sync Mash-Up

  • Starring Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman this was a creative and funny commercial shared between Mountain Dew and Doritos that featured the two star actors spitting verses… well syncing them anyway.

Were there any Super Bowl ad favorites that you did not see here? Let me know!
